Audi is one of the most popular car producing brands all over the world. It was founded in 1910. August Horch was forced by trial to leave the company where he used to work before. This situation made him create his own company and it finally got a name Audi. The first auto was equipped with a 4-cylyndric engine which was very similar to engine produced by Horch. However some time passed and new kinds of engine started to appear. Their main feature was symmetrical valves. August was eager to gain success that is why he worked really hard to take part in different competitions. However he managed to win only one in 1911 when his Audi B went all the distance in Austrian race without any penalty points.

Audi disappeared for a while. The rebirth of the brand took place only in 1965. And at once it started to surprise consumers and rest of the world with its new models. For example, at one of the Frankfurt auto shows Audi 1700 was presented. It had an engine with a high level of economy. This engine was produced by Daimler Benz.

In 1969 Auto Union integrated with the company called NSU. The name for the new brand was chosen very quickly. It was NSU Auto Union. Last organizational changes took place in 1984 when the company was renamed into Audi. By this time production line of autos from Audi was already very wide. There were such series as 60, 75, 80 and 100. And in 1980 four-wheel drive Quattro was presented to the public. This auto started to gain success and popularity very fast. It managed to win several rally races that brought to the brand a high level of respect.
By the way engineer Ferdinand Piech was the one who initiated the production of four-wheel drive automobiles. He considered this process very natural. This was some kind of a revolution for Audi as manufacturing of such cars was very massive and it helped to get a lot of success and fame for the brand in the end. One of the main features of these cars was a high level of reliability of the construction as well as the fact that every auto was equipped with a 5-cylindric engine with turbo charging. This was also a starting point for creating other kinds of vehicles such as sports cars as well as series lines.
